Lets get this party started. Yes, its been a while. No reason for that and no explanations either. I have missed you all though. :)
On the home front life has been busy – couldn’t tell you what I do all day but I do know that the time just flies and before you know it I’m planning tea and people are arriving home from work. Date nights continue as do lunch dates and breakfasts out. We are continually surprised at just how much variety there is nowadays in Christchurch with new restaurants opening as well as our old favourites. So many choices. :)
Both kids are making noises about leaving home and going flatting. We surely will be rattling around in our big house then – must be time to build again??? LOL. Miss 22 is getting more confident in her driving and hopefully by the end of the year will have her licence – a gigantic leap forward to independence and more sleep ins for us especially at weekends when she is on the morning shift.
On the scrappy front am happy to smugly say that I am just about caught up on all my photos that were in the old slip in albums. Just have a box full of Andrews baby/childhood ones and they are next on the list to do. There are also our wedding ones which are in the too hard basket as I try to decide just how I want to preserve them. My scrappy style is more Project Life these days than in actual 12×12 layouts but hoping that will change once I get fully caught up. Am very mindful of the 60 odd albums I have already filled with layouts. Still like (and miss) the creative side of things in doing 12×12’s though.
Am looking forward to a girlie weekend away in September with wonderful friends who make me laugh. We all could do with friends like that. Can see lots of eating and drinking, shopping, crafting, talking and of course laughing. Just can’t wait and counting down the days.
(Yes, thats off centre and its really annoying me as I’ve forgotten how to fix it. LOL)
With the family we are heading over to Anaheim in November. It will be our first trip outside of Australia and NZ. Not a fan of such a long plane ride but needs must if we want to broaden our horizons. Planning days at Disneyland, LEGOLAND, Sea World and a day tour round LA seeing all the typical touristy spots. I have a list for the likes of Michaels and plan on lots of scrappy shopping. Luckily we are allowed two suitcases each and I plan to make the most of that. Andrew and I have big plans for lots of travel and I have even heard him mention cruising – that’s a big deal seeing as he hates boats!!! Its time to leave the kids at home and “just do it”. :)
And just “cos” I can – an actual layout as I played with my new gelatos.
Yippee – I can finally say I am up to date with all my unfinished projects from 2013. Moving on now to this years big ones like getting Alexias photos all up to date Project Life style and 12×12 scrapping the best ones. Also want to get all Aarons albums sorted into new D ring albums and his photos up to date. Still have a lot of pizza boxes full of layouts that need to go into albums as well. Am planning to just buy the essentials and little else until all this happens – well that’s the plan!!! LOL
December layout – happy to say I only missed one month over 2013 of our couple photos. Am not going to fudge it and just add one in for the sake of it but I did better than 2012. Pehaps this year will be the year I get them all.
And have even done the January 2014 one.
Have finished Alexias Guide Jamboree album. Again, it was very simple and somewhere to put all her memorabilia rather than just lying in some bag at the bottom of her wardrobe.
And finally tidied up Alexias 21st book just in time for her 22nd birthday in a couple of weeks time. :)
Have used the Stuck Sketch from 15 January 2014 for my November couple photo.
and my take….
Another of my unfinished projects that I am catching up on is the monthly photos of Andrew and I. Still have a couple left to do on my list. I also have quite a few sketches saved on my computer and for this one I chose the latest at Sketchabilities.
And my take using our October photo…
Its the first layout I have done since well before Christmas and pretty pleased to be getting back into it. Yes, my page is a bit wrinkled from the overwatering I did to get the drips but that’s OK as it will flatten out in the album. LOL. You forget these things when you are in the moment of messy play. ;)
Todays finished project is my Brave Girls journal – actually it is an up to date one rather than a finished one. I did this cover months ago with the intention of putting all those Brave Girls emails in it that meant something to me. Never happened. I got overwhelmed with all the emails and have since put a hold on receiving them. So, with reaching my 50th birthday I turned it into a journal of my 50th year. Just a rambling collection of thoughts, quotes and whatever, teamed together with a 6×8 photo of something from that week. Just keeping it simple – one photo and a page of journaling each week. Have caught up now and onto week 15.
Next up is Alexias 21st birthday book. Just got to tidy it up. Won’t be going far today as its icky weather outside and am feeling bit sorry for myself after tweaking my back. Might be a movie day. :)
Just finishing off another project that has been on the go (or sitting in the background) for a while now, and that was my Polka Dot party that the girls surprised me with whilst at Scrapfest last September. I was totally clueless and totally surprised. They got me good on that one!! LOL. Anyhow, have finally got the photos in the fabulous album that Esther made me. Have kept it really simple with just the photos, a little bit of handwriting and some cameo words. It still brings a smile to my face looking at these photos and thinking how lucky I am to have such wonderful and generous friends. :)
Am calling it done now and moving onto the next project. Got two more things to finish before I’m letting myself get back into scrapping some 12×12 pages. :)
Well, after saying I rarely do PL posts heres a second one. LOL. I love the start of a new Project Life album – time to change things up from last year, add new colours and just do something a bit different. This year I am using the Midnight core kit with a bit of Honey to add some colour. I am going to do white borders on my 4×6 photos which I have never done before on any of my photos. I am also going to stitch on some of the cards after really liking this look in my December Daily album. Will also be doing less journaling on the photos and using the hundreds of PL journaling cards I have instead. Loving the overlays for the photos though. This year I want to try and keep it to one album rather than the two I have done for the past 4 years – won’t hold my breath but will certainly try. Will be cutting out a lot of the memorabilia and limiting my photos and see if this makes a difference but really if I want something in the album then its going to go in there regardless. :)
Title page 2014
With both kids at home now working we seem to have had a very quiet start to the year. Alexia, on the other hand has had a pretty bad start to the year with an incident at work requiring time in A&E. She was OK and big ups to the staff in A&E for really looking after her as well as her work ringing every day to check on her. She texted us at the time to say she would be home early and nothing else as she didn’t want to worry us!!! She has since had her glasses broken by a patient which has been a major inconvenience to her especially as she was about to sit her Learners Licence (she passed – yahoo!!!) :)
Had a day out in the country to celebrate Traces birthday and an “all about me” insert for a Facebook challenge in the Project Life group.
Still loving this project and looking forward to documenting another year. Lots of changes with no kids now at school and all working. That’s such a weird feeling and knowing that my day won’t end at 3pm. Looking forward to some holidays and just getting out there and doing “stuff”. Bring it on. :)
I haven’t posted too many photos of my Project Life album from 2013. I kind of figured that the internet was absolutely saturated with PL stuff and who really cared about what I was doing?? ;) But anyhow here we are at the end of one album and starting all over again for 2014, and “just cos” its my blog, I thought I would share some of our December happenings PL style. :)
The big news here was Rebecca returned home from India. She had a fantastic time but was really happy to be home and looking forward to eating meat!! Her sari’s were just beautiful. She has gorgeous bracelets to match them all and most were wedding gifts from the bride and both families.
This was the big week – Christmas dinners, lunches, groceries etc
Andrew and I fitted in a visit to the Antarctic Centre – was the closest we were going to get to a white Christmas. :)
A day trip with Aaron to Arthurs Pass and Castle Hill – two of our favourite places
And finally, how we all spent New Years Eve….
Heres the last of it. Am pleased to actually get this project done and dusted and to move onto something else. Got another couple of things that need finishing off before I can get back into actual scrapping – that’s the plan anyway. ;)
Trace and I had one last catchup before Christmas at the Ohoka Farmers Market
A trip to the Antarctic Centre with Andrew was the closest either of us would get to a white Christmas. We also managed a getaway for the day to Hanmer with Alexia.
Christmas Eve was all about crossing off the last things off my list – the annual Starbucks coffee and visiting the lights. Alexia was starting a night shift so we were out and about until nearly midnight. :)
Christmas Day (not too many photos of the actual day as we were just enjoying it)
And a last couple of pages “just cos” – one with pockets for the Xmas baking I did (just waiting to print the photos), my Xmas cake recipe is in the glassine bag and a couple with my favourite decorations collected over many years.
So that’s it all finished. Each year I debate whether or not to do one but am so glad I did this year. The Snap album make it easy and also getting the Pretty Little Studio December Life kit was a touch of genius if I do say so myself. It just took the pressure off with everything co-ordinating and you just have to love all those little Woodland critters. :) Now to get back to Alexias Jamboree album from 2008. ;)
More pages from my December Life album….
A lovely surprise in amongst my Craft House goodies :)
Alexia got herself a duck “onesie” – shes a bit annoyed that its too hot at the moment to wear it. LOL
Whoo hoo – Bec home from India and was looking forward to eating meat, getting some sleep and setting up Christmas at her house (not necessarily in that order either) :)
After coming from behind I won the mini golf – you can be sure there will be a rematch in Australia in a couple of months time. ;)
This was our busiest week. We had another go at trying out the new Wendys – first time round the queue was out the door and we didn’t even bother stopping. Andrew and I were invited to see the Mikado and what an awesome show that was although am sure the original didn’t make mention of EQC, Bob Parker or Tony Marryat – so very funny.
Lunch out with the ladies from aquajogging – they are a fabulous bunch and were so pleased to see me after my “wee” winter break.
Am just waiting on the last lot of photos to be printed to finish off the December Life album along with the first of this years Project Life album ones. Can’t wait to start a new album for that.
